Maybe it’s time to reset and recharge?

Here’s how you can do it.

If you went a little crazy over the holiday period- excess food and alcohol- don’t panic! You’ll be able to turn around that over-indulgence in no time. You’re only human, so don’t get yourself down- we’ve all been there.

Here are a few suggestions of simple things that you can do to reset, recharge, and get back into the swing of things. 2019 here we come!

1. Sleep

Did you party too hard or have too many late nights? Maybe it’s time to rest.

Sleep is so important! Let your body rest and recharge overnight, with some good solid night’s sleep. It is recommended you get between 7-9 hours of quality sleep a night. Your body repairs itself at rest, so let it repair adequately with some good solid sleep! (yes, this is permission to sleep in if you can!).

2. Increase your water

If you’ve had a lot of alcohol or sugar-rich sodas over the holidays, then it’s time to increase that water supply and get your body out of its dehydrated state.

Water is amazing- but many of us don’t drink enough of it. We should be having at least 1L of water for every 25kg of body weight. This is between 2.5-3L of water a day for most of us! Studies have shown that drinking water can boost your metabolism, as well as aiding digestion. Water brings oxygen into the body, and the more oxygenated our cells are, the more energised and vitalised you will feel!!

3. Be good to your gut

If you’ve eaten a lot of fatty or salty, sugar rich or starchy foods, then it’s time to cleanse and get your macros into check (contact me if you need more info here). Perhaps try some probiotics to aid in your gut digestion too.

Eating a balanced diet and getting back on track will give you more energy. But please don’t skip meals! This will leave you feeling hungry and more likely to snack later on, plus it will mess with your metabolism.

4. Happy endorphin time!

Exercise releases happy hormones, otherwise known as endorphins. These hormones make us feel good about ourselves, which is a good thing if we’ve been feeling the post-holiday blues. By going for a walk/ run or coming along to a gym session, getting that blood flowing and those endorphins racing, I can guarantee that you’ll feel better!!

5. Take care of the mind

Meditation, practicing mindfulness and gratitude are a great way to take care of the mind, which in turn will help you take care of the body. A great way to do this is download a mindfulness app (eg. Smiling Mind, Headspace), or come along to a Yoga class!

The practice of Yoga asanas (poses) develops strength and flexibility, while calming the mind. The word yoga means ‘to join or yoke together’. It brings your body and mind together, and is built on three main elements – exercise, breathing and meditation. Because of this, Yoga is a powerful supplement to other types of fitness including HIIT and Pilates.

6. 15 days of summer challenge

Join other Get Street Fit members in participating in the daily exercise challenges. The goal of this challenge is to motivate you and get moving again, even on days when you can’t get to class.
