The most common reason people resist the lunch time workout is that they think they don’t have enough time during the day. However with proper preparation, a lunch break provides everything you need for an awesome workout 🙂
Taking a midday break from your desk for a workout definitely has its advantages. Here’s some reasons why a workout during your working day will benefit you:
- Boosts your mood, increases your energy levels and reduces stress
Exercise releases endorphins- a neurotransmitter released during exercise which often acts like an opiate and produces those ‘happy feelings’. Who doesn’t want more happy feelings in their day?! Exercise is also proven to reduce stress – so by taking a break during the day to work up a sweat is a great way to deal with those regular stresses at work.
- Creates more free time
If you exercise through the day, it saves you getting up at the crack or dawn or going to bed late to fit in the session- which let’s be honest, we often make up a simple excuse to get out of! Working out at lunch time means you can still enjoy that ‘sleep in’ in the morning or still be available to help your partner with the evening routine and chaos of children!
- Reduces your chance of illness
We know that being sedentary for long periods of time will have negative health effects. Sedentary behaviour is associated with poorer health outcomes, including an increased risk of type 2 diabetes- and this information comes straight from our National Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines! The Guidelines also state to minimise the amount of time spent in prolonged sitting; and break up long periods of sitting as often as possible. What better reason to step away from the desk!
- Saves you money and kilojoules
If you’re not around a café to purchase your lunch, then you’re less likely to buy your lunch- saving your hard earned pennies. And as well as saving your dollars, you’ll be saving those extra kilojoules as the food we make at home is generally going to be much healthier than the food we purchase in a café. And it doesn’t need to be complicated- a yummy home made steak wrap with mountain bread, steak (last nights leftover), with some tomato and greens is an easy lunch to prepare!
